A Little Bit of Valentine’s Day Randomness…

Performer. Actor. Poet. Multi-Emmy and Grammy Nomination and Golden Globe recipient. Famous friend of many famous friends.

Mos Def presents the perfect opportunity for us to compile another list. It’s been a while, and with such large body of work, this one took some serious contemplation. Rams Head Plunges into the Icy Chesapeake Bay

Along with 11,000 other Plungers, the owners of Rams Head led a Plunge Team of 46 into the icy Chesapeake Bay on Saturday, January 24th 2009.

The 13th Annual Polar Bear Plunge raises funds for Special Olympics Maryland, the state’s largest year-round organization devoted to sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

This was Rams Head’s 1st Plunge experience and we all walked away humbled, inspired, COLD, but already full of anticipation to plunge again in 2010!

Wayman Tisdale’s Inspirational Story…

We are proud to be presenting this incredible man at Rams Head On Stage on Feb. 6th.  I think of all the acts that have come through here, Wayman may be at the top of my list for ‘Artists I’d Like To Meet’.  Wayman recently underwent intensive treatment and won his battle against cancer.  What an encouragement are his faith and positive spirit.  Check out his story…

From The Bunker….

Wow….what a day! Big thanks to everyone at WRNR for throwing the inaugural party with us here in Annapolis. Great day…lots of fun, and it was good to see so many excited people. Speaking of which, I expect to see just as many of you get excited when you see in our e-mail blast tomorrow that we are going on sale with Mos Def (Feb. 25) and Tricky (March 10) tomorrow afternoon. But…I got a little secret…the shows are actually on sale right now, at www.ramsheadlive.com. Anyone who buys a ticket to either show between now and tomorrow at noon will be entered into a contest to be upgraded to our VIP section for BOTH shows AND a free pair of Thievery Corporation VIP tickets to boot!

Also just announced, but not onsale until Saturday at noon, moe will be coming to Rams Head Live for two great nights March 27 and 28 with very special guest The Bridge. Also, we have just announced the Cold, Cold Heartbreakers as the special guests for the Scott Weiland extravaganza Jan, 27th. Anyone who has seen Rodney Henry and company knows their involvement guarantees that this will be the party of the year! Rams Head & MICA present ‘A Presentation’

We are very excited to be working with Bernard Canniffe, Graphic Design Professor and Co-Chair at Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). Together, we have presented two of his Sophmore level design classes with an opportunity to design posters (and perhaps additional marketing collateral) for our February 27th Thievery Corporation show at Rams Head LIVE! We’re looking forward to working with Bern and his students on what should be not only a fun learning project but one that will also provide each student with a professional piece for their portfolio and the experience of working on a professional level with a local Baltimore business.

The final pieces will be displayed in a “virtual show” format on our 25 flatscreen monitors. Students will then be invited to present their work and ideas to the group in a tradtional critique format within our VIP viewing areas prior to the show.

Due to the joyful chaos of local Presidential Inauguration festivities at our Rams Head Tavern in Annapolis, we were unable to personally present this project to the class. However we have provided this video as a “Virtual Presentation”…. keeping with the theme of the project in a way.

Bern & Students: Get your pens and pencils ready and push play when your ready to be WOWed by the artistically inclined, overly animated, tap-dancing triple-threat known to those who lover her simply as “CHESTER.”

National Nothing Day: January 16th

National Nothing Day is quite simply… a day for nothing.

Seeing as the creators of this day left nothing about the cause or reason for the day, we are also describing nothing about today. To say anything more would defeat the purpose of this day.

Celebrate this day by doing….nothing. Of course, that assumes that doing nothing is okay with your boss.

Roch Kubatko to be Roasted at Rams Head Live

We’re exactly one week away (Jan. 21) from my roast at Rams Head Live, with proceeds benefiting the Cool Kids Campaign. It’s for a really good cause, and it promises to be a good time.

I mean, you can’t put a price on watching people take turns hurling insults at me, but tickets are $25. Scroll down the Web site that I linked and you can order them. We want to pack the place.

The only thing worse than being insulted in a room full of people is being insulted for charity in an empty room. Like I need another reminder that I’m not as popular as I tell everyone.

Former Orioles catcher Rick Dempsey will emcee the event, and scheduled speakers include former Baltimore Colts running back Tom Matte, former Ravens offensive lineman Wally Williams, former Orioles pitcher Dave Johnson, MASN’s Amber Theoharis, The Sun’s Peter Schmuck, 105.7′s Jeremy Conn, comedian Alabama and Mark Viviano, who works for everybody.

Williams, part of MASN’s Ravens coverage, was kind enough to accept the offer yesterday on short notice. He joked that I’ve made the big time when people want to roast me. I think it’s just their uncontrollable urge to tear me down, which usually is done at Happy Hour or through late-night text messaging.

I expect Schmuck to go easy on me, since we’re good friends and have known each other a long time and used to work together and would live together in spring training for six weeks and…

I don’t have a prayer.

Since this entry is mostly about me, here’s another reminder that I’ll be in studio with Tom Davis for today’s Koji Uehara press conference, which airs live on MASN beginning at noon.

What are the chances that Danys Baez joins Uehara in the rotation? Team president Andy MacPhail told me earlier this week that he’s “inclined” to give Baez a shot in spring training, since the right-hander has expressed an interest in working out as a starter.

Also, MASN is asking fans to submit their favorite Orioles moments from the 2008 season, along with reasons to look forward to the future. Send your thoughts and opinions, along with your contact information, via e-mail to moments@masnstudios.com.
