tweetup_flat

Any interest in chatting with your tweets in person? You know, the old fashioned form of Interpersonal communication: Face to face, beer in hand? If you’re like us, you’re stoked about the new friends you’ve made on Twitter, but are still curious. How well do your tweets communicate their true style, personality, and sense of humor within the limits of 140 characters?

Join us (aka @RamsHeadGroup, @jlcommunication, @HappyTown09) for Happy Hour on Thursday, April 23rd. Weather permitting, we’ll be hosting the first Annapolis area Tweetup in our beer garden. Be sure to sign in at meetup.com so we can prepare ourselves for the appropriate sized flock.

Until then, we’ll see you in the statusphere.

Somebody’s Got a Case of the Mundays

You can’t deny that the weekend is over when your alarm blares away Monday morning. Like most of us, you probably walk like a zombie to the coffee maker in hopes of getting your engines going for another week of work. You get to work and log in to your facebook account, to see what pictures your friends posted of you from your ridiculous weekend. And alas, you start your week up again… and hope like hell that your boss doesn’t walk in and say, “looks like somebody’s got a case of the mundays.”

To combat any signs of a Munday start to the week, this office grabbed two large lattes from 49West and a chicken suit.

Highly recommended in small doses on Monday mornings. Sure to give you a ridiculously silly reason to smile. And perhaps a reason to celebrate on April 11th, 2009. Stay tuned…

Say Cheese!

Dave Barnes, self-proclaimed “Rocker. Roller. Laugher. Writer. Intermural Softball Champion. Ex TCBY Employee.” kept the good music, giggles, and photo-ops coming at Rams Head On Stage on March 19. Check out this fan captured photo of Dave and his crew posing on stage with the Gabe Dixon Band…

Dave Barnes & Gabe Dixon Band "vogue" for the cameras at Rams Head On Stage March 19th

Thanks to the concert goer who graciously sent this e-mail to us. (PS – I lost your e-mail my friend, if you could hit me back I’d love to give you credit for your artwork!)

So, my fellow music-lovers – here’s your challenge…post a comment with your favorite Rams Head photo op (KEEP IT CLEAN!) and be entered to win a prize out of our magic prize bag. It could be a cd…it could be a signed poster…it could be some sweet merch. You never know. It pays to play.

Smilin’, hummin’, singin’ along

What a great way to start the weekend. Ritter’s smiles are contagious – seriously, does he ever stop? Here his art comes full circle, literally, as he encourages the balconies to hum the intro:

By keeping tuned to Gomez’ MySpace page we were able to listen to their new album, A New Tide in full while they were streaming it for free for the both the day before and the day of the show. Another solid release, congratulations guys. But we had to pick one of our favorites for the blog video… to keep the positivity at a peak as we’re approaching a warm(er) spring weekend.

Raphael Saadiq rocks Baltimore!

raphaelsaadiq2

Last night I was lucky enough to catch Raphael Saadiq at Rams Head Live. The first word that comes to mind to describe this show would have to be incredible! If you are a fan of Raphael Saadiq, seeing him live is a must.

Raphael hit the stage around 9:00pm sporting his classic mustard yellow suit and thick, black frame glasses. Dressed to impress would be an understatement for this man! Raphael and his high energy back up singers/dancers were on fire throughout the whole set. There wasn’t a still body in the club last night! Even the staff couldn’t help but to swing along to Raphael’s “Neo-Motown, smile inducing music.” Did I mention this guy is also an amazing bass player?! I was impressed (but not surprised)!

Like I said before, if you haven’t seen Raphael Saadiq live you need to make it a priority! Raphael is visiting our friends at the 9:30 club in DC tonight with Tha Boogie and this just might be a show I see two nights in a row :)

**Check out Raphael Saadiq’s website to listen to tracks from his new album “The Way I See It”.

Who takes care of the bartender?

One of the most favored nights of the year at Rams Head Live is the the Body Art Ball sponsored by Tuaca.    This event celebrates the arts, by defying traditonal methods;

The human body as a canvas.  Music that inspires bold movement.  Colors that test the eye’s ability.  One night of unforgettable entertainment.www.tuacabodyartball.com

And the only way to get your ticket: be in da biznass;

Your bartender always takes care of you, but who takes care of your bartender? On March 22, area mixologists poured into Rams Head Live! for the Tuaca Body Art Ball Evolution. Cheers to Tuaca, whose generosity allowed bartenders a much-deserved night of relaxation and liqueur on the receiving end of the bar. – baltimore metromix staffer mark gross

As one can imagine, our Rams Head Live staffers showed up on time (perhaps maybe even early?) to watch these beautied bodies get decked out for showtime.

Tweet this.

Myspace, Facebook, Twitter

Myspace, Facebook, Twitter

Just a month ago we had no idea what a “tweet” was. Never knew the frustration of the “fail whale”. Thought a “twhirl” was nothing more than our favorite summer soft-serve. To think, when we first opened our doors in 1989 all communication was passed across the bar. All socializing was done within our walls, face to face.

The world has certainly changed since 1989. When Bill Muehlhauser had a thick Tom Sellick-esque mustache and was selling sandwiches and drafts out of the Annapolis Downbar, I’m sure he would’ve loved to “tweet” about Annapolis’ best Happy Hour bargain. Surely, the perfectly permed Paula would’ve loved to send a personalized “direct message” to each of her favorite fannypack-wearing patrons.

But it is now, on the dawn of neon’s revival, with ever-thinning iPods and expanding “tweet decks” that we have the opportunity to keep you in the know.

Did you miss The Hold Steady when their Rams Head Live show was featured on David Letterman? Check out the YouTube clip on our myspace page.

Did you have your picture taken with President Barack Obama at the InRNRgural celebration at Rams Head On Stage? Tag yourself in our photos and add it to your Facebook page.

Curious about tonight’s specials or what band is tearin’ it up at the Roadhouse for late night? Follow us on twitter and we’ll keep you posted daily on menu changes, drink specials, and upcoming events.

We understand, it can all be a little overwhelming and none of us are immediately accepting of change. But at some point, someone suggested that you toss out the acid wash jean jacket with bedazzled cuffs and suede fringe.

We just want to keep you on the up and up. And the beauty of these sites is that you can communicate with us right back – friends lookin’ out for friends. And at the end of the day, we’re still right here: behind the bar with a beer, poised for dirty jokes and complaints about your boss or mother-in-law.

Until then, we’ll see you in the twittersphere.

“LiveDaily Interview: Raphael Saadiq”

Christina Fuoco-Karasinski of LiveDaily interviews Raphael Saadiq. Check it out below…

From his early days as a member of the ’80s group Tony! Toni! Tone! through his work as a producer with artists such as Joss Stone, The Roots, Snoop Dogg and John Legend, Raphael Saadiq [ tickets ] has always kept the faith–especially when labels told him there was no place in today’s music for his stylish, ’50s-inspired solo album, “The Way I See It.”

“They said, ‘You’re a black American guy when there’s only really, like, a blonde British girl [Joss Stone] singing this type of music. Where do you fit in?’” Saadiq recalled during a recent interview with LiveDaily.
“I’m like, ‘We started it. That’s where I fit in.’ So many people wouldn’t attempt it. The only reason I did it was because I actually love it. It’s like somebody surfing in freezing water. A lot of people wouldn’t attempt to do it unless they really love to surf. This music, I really love. I didn’t think about it being a commercial success. I just thought about this point in my life where I’m at right now; this is what I should be doing. It was more important to me to do something that felt right with my life, than felt right with radio or what people thought.”

But “people”–critics, his peers and listeners–thought otherwise. Saadiq’s album was nominated for three 2009 Grammys, including Best R&B Album.

Saadiq spoke to LiveDaily about his inspiration for “The Way I See It,” the songwriting process and how recording music is like playing Xbox.

LiveDaily: Congratulations on your Grammy nominations. What do the nominations mean to you at this point in your career?

Raphael Saadiq: For me, there are so many other things that mean just as much to me–a lot of fans, critical acclaim, song list, and iTunes, after-party playing for Elton John. All those things are pretty much the same. The Grammys are just another actual tool no different from any other one to me.

What can we expect form your live show? Are you going to play mostly “The Way I See It” or your catalog numbers as well?

I do some catalog stuff. But 90 percent of the show is “The Way I See It.”

How do you prepare for an album like this?

I think I’ve been preparing all my life for this record. You gotta go in and be really serious and know that you’re attempting to do something different for Americans. It shouldn’t be different. But it is. To attempt it and to pull it off, it’s an acrobatic trick. I’ve been listening to it my whole life.

You’ve worked with some very diverse artists on this album, from Joss Stone to Stevie Wonder to Jay-Z. Who do you think you learned the most from?

Probably Joss. She’s such a great vocalist and more of a musician than vocalist. Everything is important to her, but she really takes her vocals seriously. To work with her and produce her sometimes … I didn’t really want to produce her vocals but she wanted me to. She really did it herself. I learned a lot from her just by watching her approach to singing. She’s incredible.

What was the songwriting process for this album?

I guess I just go in and play guitar and drums and come up with the melody. Then, once I get a melody, a bass line, [I] just kind of go play the drums and sing it to myself. Then I’ll go back and play the bass and guitar over it. Write the vocals and sing. From there, I’ll just add everything else it might need.

Do you write when you have to or do you write mostly when you’re inspired?

Most of the time, I write when I’m inspired. That’s been a lot. I look at music like a fun book: you open it up and you have all these goodies in the studio that you can pull out at any time. That’s what kind of keeps me inspired, is the instrumentation. Seeing instruments is like an Xbox to me.

How did you come up with the name “The Way I See It”

It just sort of popped up into my head, “The Way I See It.” The way I hear music. The way I see it looking, visually. Also, the way I want people to look at me and the way I see them clapping and enjoying music and life. The way I see you look at me looking out to people, too. Seeing them enjoying it when it’s kind of hard for people sometimes.

How long have you been planning this album?

I didn’t really plan it. I just started playing it one day. It just kept going. Maybe, like, three years ago. The album-cover picture is 3 years old. I took the picture when I kind of came up with the idea to do an album like this. I didn’t have any of the music then. I was singing “Ain’t That Peculiar” by Marvin Gaye. I just wanted to dress like that. After that, I started working on the album to see what happens.

What do you have plans in terms of producing for this year?

I have a couple people, things in the fire. Nothing etched in stone yet. I’ve been getting a few phone calls about working on future projects.

Come out and see Raphael Saadiq at Rams Head live on Monday 3/23/09!
