2006: Anderson appears with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra during two shows in Philadelphia P.A. to play “Roundabout”.

2010: Kanye West samples and predominantly features Anderson’s vocals from “In High Places” on his opening track to My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, “Dark Fantasy”.

When Robyn’s North American tour sold out the 930 Club this past August, I made the mistake of staying home with the dogs and some choco ice cream. Sure, it was relaxing and I was able to catch up on my insert-trashy-reality-show-here, but thanks to Twitter’s “publish to facebook” feature (and my inability to put my iPhone down for more than 5 minutes) it was instantly evident that home-with-The-Real-Housewives was the wrong choice. And who can I thank for bringing this poor decision to light? The date that I ditched: Kyle Holtgren (aka DJ Aisle-K of Peer Pressure) and his fluttering facebook fingers.  His front row positioning and love for sharing forced me to watch clips of laser-lit crowd sing-alongs on grainy web videos during trash-tv commercial breaks. Sinking deeper into the couch as Nene or Bethany or Danielle was yammering on about some bitchy nonsense or bad boob job, all I could think was “harumph”.

Well, she’s back! For one night only at Rams Head Live! And the first person I called… the date I ditched… DJ Aisle-K.

Chester: Hey handsome, Robyn’s coming to Rams Head Live and this wait is #killingme.

Aisle-K: “First of all, I have a bone to pick with the description of her on the Rams Head Live site. She couldn’t be further from a “diva”.  She’s an anti-diva. Not pretentious in the slightest.  She’s like Peaches, but you can take her home to meet your folks.”

Chester: Noted. We’ll work on that. Any thoughts on her live show? You know, in case there are any other potential wafflers out there that I need to convince.

A: “Her live show is minimal on theatrics but she doesn’t need them.  From the minute the show starts, she attacks like a wild animal just let out of her cage. She’s completely engrossed in the music. Nothing is choreographed. She just lets it flow from the heart. There’s no doubt that she’s enjoying every minute of being on stage and if she’s faking it…. she’s doing a good fucking job.”

C: I can’t put my finger on it, but there’s something different about this girl. It just feels authentic. You know me. I have like, 5 modern pop albums in my iTunes and when it comes to Ke$ha and Gaga we don’t necessarily see eye to eye.

A: “Pft. What I love most about her is her integrity as an artist. She was a major label pop star at one point (“Show Me Love” anyone?) But, like many other young songbirds, the label tried to put her in a box. When she came to them with her own vision – in the form of the single “Who’s That Girl?”- they scoffed at her newly liberated electro sound and refused to release it.  So, she started her own label, Konichiwa Records. Her first album on Konichiwa, titled “Robyn”, became a global phenomenon and her vision was realized.”

C: I think that’s what initially intrigued me about her. The whole “Don’t Fucking Tell Me What To Do” attitude. She’s very self aware with a little punk flare. And she is so stinkin’ cute!

A: “Robyn’s songs sound like pop candy on the surface, but lyrically they’re incredibly honest. When you hear songs like ‘With Every Heartbeat’ and ‘Love Kills’, it’s clear that someone must’ve hurt her deeply in the past. But then you hear songs like ‘Hang With Me’ and ‘Indestructible’ and you know that she’s willing to give love another shot. It’s such a great balance to have pop stardom & artistic merit. It’s difficult to achieve. Robyn executes it flawlessly and she should be more famous than she is.

C: Well Kyle, I wouldn’t worry too much. Clearly she’s on her way to superstar status. And just think, we’ll be able to say ‘oh yeah, Robyn. Love her. Saw her waaaay back in 2011′.

A: “Ha! Except I’ll be able to say I saw her twice. Slacker.”
