KENTUCKY DERBY

This year marks the 138th running of the Kentucky Derby.  According to KentuckyDerby.com, “The Kentucky Derby is America’s original, extravagant springtime sports party.  While a horse race is at the heart of the spectacle, there are many intriguing aspect of the America’s Race™.”   Those aspects include Fashion, Celebrities, Tradition and Cuisine.

Rams Head Taverns (Savage & Annapolis) have taken their own spin on the Derby Celebration each year, asking customers to get out their Derby bests in celebration of the running of the races.

That history, which includes literally getting your hands dirty in the dirt, is part of why I so enjoy our Mother’s Day promotion:

In 2006 (or ’07 – the years start to blur together) we created the “LET LOVE BLOOM” Mother’s Day promotion. In our endeavors to create a new program, I found myself scouring the aisle at Homestead Gardens to purchase seed packets for the Mom’s.  I think some Mom’s may have received packets for Corn or Tomatoes that year – my procrastination did not leave me much room for being picky.

But those of you who have stuck with us over the years, know that we have bloomed our promotion to include some beautifully designed custom seed packets in true appreciate of the Mom’s in our world. We try and pick a perennial each year so that Mom can enjoy the celebration of her day, year after year. This year we have chosen the bright and colorful Zinnia.

Just in case digging in the dirt is not your Mom’s cup of tea – fear not!   Each Mom also gets to enjoy a Mimosa on the house.  We hope that the little bubbly helps Mom to kick back and enjoy her day!!   And we certainly know that Mom enjoys taking the day off from cooking, so we think between us doing the cooking + the mimosa + the seed packets, that you just need to add the LOVE and TIME to share with her.

There’s no need to wait until the weekend or travel to the beach - we’re celebrating the wonders of a Beach House this Thursday May 3rd at all Rams Head restaurants with the Dominion Beach House Beer Release!!  This Bohemian Pilsner has been brewed will all natural ingredients, is crisp and refreshing, making it perfect for a sunny summer day!

Technical Stuff: Golden in color and crystal clear, the noble hops are very prevalent giving it a spicy floral flavor and aroma, notably one of the defining characteristics of the Saaz hop, with a clean malty palate.  ABV 5.2% IBU 42

History Lesson: The birth of Pilsner beer can be traced back to its namesake, the ancient city of Plzen (of Pilsen) which is situated in the western half of the Czech Republic in what was once Czechoslovakia and previously part of the of Bohemian Kingdom. This beer was first brewed back in 1842 and was thusly named Pilsner after the city of it’s birth. The bright, golden beer, made possible by a refinement in the malting process and high quality hops, captured the imagination of drinkers at a time when mass produced glass was replacing stone and metal drinking vessels.

April 30, 2012: Annapolis, MD: Rams Head Promotions announced today the date and location of the 2012 Silopanna Music Festival. Presented by 103.1 WRNR, the Silopanna Music Festival will be held Saturday, August 11th at Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds in Crownsville, Maryland.

The complete line up for the 2012 Silopanna Music Festival will be announced on Monday, June 11th. “The lineup is set and we are excited about our headliners.” says booking agent Mark Mangold. “I think the first thing people will notice immediately is that we continue to raise the bar on the level of our headliners. Last year we had great live acts scheduled to play that music heads were stoked about. This year we have great acts that are more well-known to the public and will generate a different, higher level of excitement.”

The Position
The Graphic Designer would work directly with within the creative team and reports to the Principal. The focus of the position is to tell the story of the brand visually in both print & online mediums.

Ideal Candidate
A Rams Head creative team member is a strategic, creative thinker, a team player, and an Adobe guru who is not afraid to throw ideas out into the open. You would require little supervision and you would possess a willingness to go above and beyond job expectations. You should be proficient in using Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Dreamweaver to create fresh, engaging design. We work in a fast-paced open studio floor plan and are looking for someone who thrives in this type of environment.

Work would entail, but not be limited to:

• Working with the Creative Team to conceptualize marketing strategies via print, social and online media

With fall just beginning and the leaves starting to change , its time to kick off October with a beer release party. And, if you want to spice up your life, you should join us at your local Rams Head restaurant on Thursday, October 6^th, 2011 from 4pm-6pm for the release of Fordham Brewing Company, Spiced Harvest Ale.

Each Rams Head locaton will have limited edition glasses for the beer release. The special glass for Spiced Harvest Ale will be available for $4 at 4pm on release day.  Patrons who purchase the glass also receive a fill-up of the Spiced Harvest Ale and refills are $1 during the 4-6pm release party. 

The Rams Head executive chefs have also prepared dishes that pair well with the new brew, along with the regular menu that will be available during the evening.

Fordham Brewing Company’s, Spiced Harvest Ale is a fall seasonal beer and has a light amber color with a medium body. It’s spiced with cinnamon, ginger, clove and allspice.
