Rams Head The Blog

Blogging about food, fun, & beer

For those who missed it because they were too busy complaining about how hot it is out there, or worrying about the flooding and loss of power downtown (wasn’t that so much fun last weekend?) you should know that Mindy Smith is coming back! Practicing material for her next album which, fingers crossed, will come out sometime next year, Mindy is headed back out on tour to reconnect with friends and fans. We caught up to ask how things are going and what we can look forward to at her show at Rams Head On Stage next Thursday night!

RHOS: So there’s a rumor that you’ve got some new songs to try out on
us… can you give us any hints about what you’ve got up your sleeve?

Mindy: Yes, I have written some new tunes that I want to start putting out
there. Performing new songs is a bit nerve wracking for me because I
am at my most vulnerable. But it must be done and these are songs I
am very excited about.

RHOS: Since you’re right in the thick of the creative process of working
on material for a new album can you tell us where your inspiration
comes from?

Mindy: Inspiration comes from anywhere I can find it. I have to be open
to see and observe my life and then willing to write honestly about it.

RHOS: When you’re here in Annapolis is there anything you always have
to see? What’s your favorite hangout here in town?

Mindy: My nieces and nephews that live nearby. I look forward to
spending time with my sister Kimberly and her husband John too.
Actually, I may even see my parents while I am there too.

RHOS: How did it come about that Dolly did backup vocals on your
cover of ‘Jolene’?

Mindy: She loves me and when I made the request that she come and sing
she did just that. I have so much respect for Dolly because she is
genuine and I’ve tried to emulate that in my own career.

RHOS: Do your guitars have names? (Silly question, I know, but Arthur
named Excalibur, now didn’t he?)

Mindy: Yes, The Lucas and The Martin. Ha!!! Their names sake.

So get ready for Mindy, Lucas and Martin next Thursday night! Also make sure you check out DC’s own Taylor Carson who will be opening the show!
