Neil Innes – The Seventh Python

My dearest Monty Python memory harkens back to my high school years.  Two of my best girl friends and I decked out in our favorite pj’s settled in for a Friday night of laughs and dessert as we popped in our VHS copy of Monty Python & The Holy Grail.  This was also the night that I discovered creme brulee – yum, so this film has an extra sweet spot in my heart.

So, Jocelyn & Beth, my dear high school BFF’s…this one’s for you.  None other than Neil Innes, Monty Python Minstrel himself, will be performing here at Rams Head On Stage this Sunday the 31st.

In addition to his appearance in The Holy Grail, Innes appeared with the Bonzo Dog Band UK kids show “Do Not Adjust Your Set” – who’s cast was chock full of future “Pythons”. The band’s hit “I’m the Urban Spaceman” was produced by Apollo C. Vermouth (aka Paul McCartney) and topped the UK charts in 1968.

Ever heard of Bonzo Dog Band “Death Cab for Cutie”?  You can thank Neil & his Bonzo Dog Band for that?  They wrote the song which inspired the American band of the same name.

Check out the trailer for “The Seventh Python” starring our good friend Neil:

Then hop on over to www.ramsheadonstage.com to get  your tickets for Sunday!

Calling All Idol Fans…

So folks, tonight’s the night.   Millions of Americans will be glued to the screen…watching, waiting for Seacrest to give us the word.  Will it be Adam or Kris?  All news reports say these fellas are running neck in neck in the polls.  Which crooner has stolen your heart this year?

Tight pant glam rocker Adam?  Listen to him belt out Aerosmith’s ‘Cryin’ here:

…or soulful sweetheart Kris Allen? Hear his smokin’ version of Bill Withers’ ‘Aint No Sunshine’:

And if it’s Idols you want, it’s Idols we’ve got.

Elliott Yamin

My personal favorite, ah-mazing singer Elliott Yamin will be performing tomorrow night (May 21) at 8pm at Rams Head On Stage.

Bo Bice

Then 2005 AI Legend, Bo Bice rocks the house on July 28 (just a few days after my bday, woot!)

Be there!

Wisteria Vine… Oldest in Anne Arundel County?

It is rumored to be true that Rams Head Tavern Annapolis is home to the oldest wisteria vine in Anne Arundel County, Maryland.   I wish I had that documented, stamped and signed so that I could really go to town on that claim and maybe get in on some horticulture tour in Annapolis, or listed in 1,000 Things to See Before You Die, or have it be part of our tagline… Food Fun & Wisteria.   But, for now… it’s just an undocumented rumor.wisteria7

Regardless of documentation, these gorgeous wisteria blooms have cast great purple haze over thinkers in town… inspiring beers of Fordham past (R.I.P. Wisteria Wheat.  You will never be forgotten) and exciting writers to dream of lazy afternoons;

Sitting on the back patio under the enormous wisteria vine on a sunny afternoon is the way to properly enjoy these brews.  -Eric Brace, Washington Post

For us, the arrival of the bloom is a highlight to the spring season, marking the kick-off to warmer weather, happy hours highlighted by the sunset, longer days full of sunlight, and the arrival of a favorite Annapolis past-time: live outdoor music on the patio.

Friday, May 1st marks the arrival of our summer music calendar which includes all the local favorites… The Geckos , Dean Rosenthal, Matt McConville just to name a few.  If you haven’t spent an evening on the patio, at rams head, listening to these guys while drinking a Fordham brew, well… you just can’t call yourself an Annapolitan.  It’s a rite of passage, an Annapolis must.

So, if you’ve been waiting for your official invitation to come and see us on the patio…  it just arrived…  purple and sweet as they come, and full of hosptitality.

Rams Head Tavern Annapolis Summer Music Calendar
Sundays, 11am: Jazz Brunch on the Patio
Sundays, 7pm: The Geckos
Mondays, 6pm: Matt McConville
Tuesday, 6pm: Dean Rosenthal
Wednesday, 6pm:  John Pyle or Kajun Kelley (alternating weeks)
Thursday, 6pm:  Shayne Hudson or Pressing Strings (alternating weeks)
And inside at downbar, don’t miss our resident artist, the famous Mike McHenry Tribe, who just joined the cyber world and got a website.  We love ya Mike… and so does national recording band, Fastball.  Check out all the hype at 10pm on Mondays.

Rachael Yamagata

This girl has it.  One of this generation’s rising star singer-songwriters, she is building a foundation for legend status…

“Praised by critics for her intimately confessional songwriting and arrangements, Rachael began to appear on the public’s radar in 2005 when songs from Happenstance and her self-titled debut EP, including “Be Be Your Love,” “Collide,” “Paper Doll,” and “ Meet Me By The Water,” as well as a cover of “I Wish You Love,” turned up in such films as Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, In Her Shoes, Trust The Man, Bella, and Prime. They have also been heard in many television shows, including How I Met Your Mother, Nip/Tuck, One Tree Hill, Brothers & Sisters, ER, and The O.C., on which she made a guest performance. Additionally the single “Worn Me Down” was a Top 5 Hit at AAA Radio.”

Rachael brings her seductive sound to the Rams Head On Stage on March 14 with Birdie Busch.

Check her out here on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno:

Richard Marx will be ‘Right Here Waiting’…

FOR YOU!! Yes, YOU…for an acoustic evening of all those sweet love tunes we used to sing along to back in the day. (PS – a little insider tid bit…Richard and I had a bit of a thing going back in the 80’s. Sure, I was 10 years old running around in my Strawberry Shortcake t-shirt and he didn’t know I existed. But still.)

Richard Marx joins Matt Scannell of Vertical Horizon for “An Acoustic Evening of Hits” on March 8th at Rams Head On Stage

So, I’ve prepared a little Richard Marx teaser to whet your appetites. I threw in a little Matt Scannell too, just for good measure…

Coffee, Computers, And James Morrison…

This morning started off with a bang.  I skipped (aka drove) down to ‘RNR to record our new Rams Head On Stage spot with the ever magical and always charming Rob Timm.   Nailed a sweet parking spot right by my destination. Followed up my appointment with a short walk to City Dock Coffee with my favorite sales guy  Terry P.  to grab a yummy mocha.  I finish the trip by dropping some goods off at Zachary’s Jewelers to help support their cool Love Letter Contest.  The skies were blue, the sun was shining and all was right with the world.   Then it happened.  I hopped out of the car, grabbed my 2 mochas (one for my coworker ’cause I’m nice like that), grabbed my bag, grabbed my phone…spillage occurs.  I’m covered in foamy, chocolatey mocha.  There’s coffee in my hair, coffee on my scarf (white!), coffee on my coat (also white!!), coffee on my phone – which at this point is now flying across my office.  It lands  with a thud on my floor…in two pieces.  Stellar.

I move on to my next task of the day – the blog.  We caught some awesome footage of the uber talented British crooner James Morrison’s WRNR Private Artist Showcase  on our nifty Flip camera yesterday that I’ve been dying to share with you all.  8 hours later…my dang computer still can’t manage to be friends with my Flip.  So no video either.

Crunchy hair, broken phones and cranky computers will not break me.  I WILL bring on the James Morrison love.  It was a pleasure to have him here with us in Annapolis.  Hope he comes back again real soon. Enjoy.

Wayman Tisdale’s Inspirational Story…

We are proud to be presenting this incredible man at Rams Head On Stage on Feb. 6th.  I think of all the acts that have come through here, Wayman may be at the top of my list for ‘Artists I’d Like To Meet’.  Wayman recently underwent intensive treatment and won his battle against cancer.  What an encouragement are his faith and positive spirit.  Check out his story…

Come for the Escape, Stay for the Sequins: Super Diamond

If you want an escape from the real world, into a sing-songy evening of cheesy tunes, sequins and flowing cocktails, you do not want to miss SUPER DIAMOND’s 2nd appearence at Rams Head On Stage.  Seriously.

SUPER DIAMOND KNEELS AT THE ALTAR OF A POP ICON

Yes, Neil Diamond gives you visions of sequins, the 70′s and a really horrible haircut.  But, this band has been selling out shows across the country for years now.  While patiently the Rams Head family of venues has been waiting for the opportunity to host this surreal group from San Francisco.

You’re sure to hear Neil Diamond’s top songs;

Sweet Carolina
(allegedly written for Caroline Kennedy after Diamond saw her on the cover of Life Magazine in an equestrian riding outfit)

Cracklin Rosie

America
(the theme song for the Michael Dukakis 1988 Presidential campaign & the 1992 Winter Olympics)

I Am… I Said

Cherry, Cherry

Forever in Blue Jeans

And who can forget the iconic tunes appearing in the 1994 hit, Pulp Fiction… “Girl, You’ll be a Woman Soon” recorded by Urge Overkill .

SUPER DIAMOND CAPTURES THE ENDURING APPEAL OF NEIL

You don’t need to be a Neil Diamond *superfan* to come to this show; but, it certainly wouldn’t hurt if you showed up wearing sequins.

Where: Rams Head On Stage
When:  Thursday, January 22nd 2009
