Slightly Stoopid returns to Pier Six!!

Slightly Stoopid returns back to Pier Six Pavilion on Wednesday, August 17th with special guest Don Carlos and Karl Denson, Rebelution, Shwayze & Cisco Adler. This will be the fourth time that Slightly Stoopid has been to Pier Six. And,why do they keep returning? Well, because they ROCK! For over a decade now, Slightly Stoopid has been supplying its fans with tunes that have served as the perfect summer soundtrack and ultimate live party. Sounds fun, right?

The band is from Cali and has been playing since 1995.  You can describe their music as “a fusion of acoustic rock and blues with reggae, hip-hop, and punk“.The band was originally signed by Bradley Nowell from the band Sublime to his label Skunk Records while still in high school. How many bands can you name that were signed when they were in High School? Pretty cool. They have toured with bands like Dave Matthews Band, Sublime, The Roots, G.Love & Special Sauce, Ozomatli, Pennywise and the Vans Warped Tour

So, gather your friends, grab a ticket and head down to Pier Six this Wednesday night (August 17th, 2011). Click here to purchase a ticket or Call P:410.244.1131 to order.

Stone Temple of Awesome – Pier Six Pavilion 2011

Lets be honest. How badly do you want a beer, a hot dog, some friends, a frisbee, some great music and, for the love of god….some summa summa time?! Well my friends like the rising and setting sun, the glory days of 2011 are on the horizon and by the good grace of the music gods we will party, and we will dance, and we will throw down like we neva gonna leave town.

Buzzing with anticipation, the Pier Six Pavilion sits stoically upon the Baltimore inner harbor like a sleeping dragon. Water churns around the edge of the docks and winds gust beneath the canopy. The lights are low but the energy is high and this dormant dragon is ready to breathe some serious hell fire in 2011.

Rarh! (10 points if you can tell us what movie this dragon is from? (or a pair of tickets))

In launching the this season, we had to bear in mind that Baltimore is no city to be messed with. Baltimore will drop it like a bad habit if they ain’t down so we knew we needed a band that could set the stage for the entire summer to really rip something righteous. So who better than one of the most epic rock bands of all time?!?!

…a little vintage STP…

Stone Temple Pilots are not only set to kick off the Pier Six season on April 26, they are gearing up to blow a damn hole in the tent. Scott Weiland, Dean and Robert DeLeo and Eric Kretz come to Baltimore with their infamous brand of grunge meets alternative rock. They will be joined in true Baltimore fashion by the one and only 98 Rock who will be airing live from the party on the lawn so get there early! b Daily will be celebrating their Birthday as well and will have 500 drink tickets to hand out to the first lucky fans!

And if STP wasn’t all you need, then remember we’ve got … beer, we’ve got hot dogs, we’ve got burgers…more? We’ve got margaritas, hula hoops, cornhole, ticket winning stations…more? We’ve got lemonade, chicken fingers, merchandise, lawn party, drink tickets. Phew, alright you’re on your own! Tickets are on sale but going fast. Start your summer off right in the temple of awesome!

Do you love the 90′s..enter to win a pair of VIP STP tickets!

Growing up listening to 90’s music meant bands like Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Nine Inch Nails, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Blind Melon ,Weezer,Rage Against the Machine, and many more.  If you went to high school in the nineties, these groups and their songs are probably burnt into your mind, and when they happen to play on the radio you’re taken back to some memories you might want to remember or wish you don’t.  If you’re like me, these songs take me back to the HFSitival concert, remember wearing jeans with one of these band shirts or  being out on Friday nights or all summer long, and singing along with these artist popular songs.

One of my favorite artist growing up was Stone Temple Pilots. I mean every girl crushes over Singer, Scott Weiland. And, every dude wanted to be him. The band’s early hard rock, grunge- reminiscent style of music found them immediate success in 1992 with the release of their debut album Core. That same year, the band won a Grammy for “Best Hard Rock Performance” for the song “Plush”.

You can turn up the volume all the way up to songs like  Vasoline, Wicked Garden, Down or Sex Type Thing. This band has been rocking it up live since 1986. And, we’re excited to announce that we’re kicking off Pier Six Pavilion this summer with STP on Tuesday, April 26th. And, since we know that tons of you love the 90′s just like we do.  We wanted to give you a chance to show why you should win a pair of VIP tickets to see STP with us! The Gauntlet, it approaches.

Baltimore/D.C., you’ve posed your challenge. And as a seasoned concert veteran, I accept.

Manchester: You think bunk drugs, sweaty hippies and putrid commodes is a challenge? – Pfft. 4 days of live entertainment on 100 acres? – Pfft. Fighting a sea of thousands just to get within 50 yards of the stage? Bonnarroo, I bite my thumb at you, Sir.

Try fourteen shows over the course of two weeks, all within the Baltimore/D.C. metro area. I pick the shows, spend the same amount of money (or less), and I sleep in my own bed at the end of the night. Some vitamin B, a tall glass of cold water and my soft, cozy Downy fabric-softner-scented sheets… mmmmm, air conditioning.

Although I have recruited an army of enthusiastic show soldiers, I fear I may witness a handful of my men fall at the mercy of the Gauntlet. We ride confidently into battle, merch allowance and beer money in hand, this Sunday at dusk. We’ve studied our opponents and are prepared for an onslaught of electronica, art rock, surf guitar, and Ukranian-gypsy-punk; Jazz fusion, 90’s rock Gods, southern sirens, and soulful Citizens.

For those only able to fight as the pocket, work schedule and/or spouse will allow it, I invite you to join us on the battlefront as you are able. Consider yourselves our reserves. Below is a detailed plan of our charted course:

*Tuesday, June 09

Thursday, June 11

Alas, the sun is high in the sky – With Santigold conquered, I must head back to camp where I’ll prepare my armour and rally the troops… meaning get home, put together a totally cute outfit, scarf down some cold pizza and pack the car full of homies.

We ride!

*course subject to change due to ginormous show at Rams Head Live that I am not at liberty to discuss… until this Wednesday… stay tuned to your Rams Head Live Rock Alerts.

Heart…Nuf Said.

Every music fan has a list of those “can’t miss shows.” Heart has certainly become one such show for me. Sure, they sang diddys like, “Barracuda,” “Crazy on You,” and “What About Love,” which you truly must catch in the flesh based on the novelty of it all, but beyond the hits these ladies are performers. Pure performers.

Now, I’ll tell you the truth. I’ve never seen them live. But I have seen more than a boat ton of YouTube videos, non-tour broadcasts, interviews, rattled around to every jam and definitely screamed some lyrics so loud to have lost my voice for a day. Trust it’s easy to do because Ann Wilson is not messing around. Some critics were not far off in referring to her as “the female Robert Plant,” only I would set her even more apart than merely drawing comparisons.

And Nancy Wilson can play a guitar to the point where you’re surprised it hasn’t disintegrated in her hands. Her relevance transcended the days of Heart and found additional ground in film composition. Take a bite out of “Elevator Beat” from the Vanilla Sky soundtrack and you’ll get what I’m giving.

I don’t know about you but I like music to be something I can really sink my teeth into. I want it to be just as piercing as Ann’s voice and saturated in joy, angst and everything in between which is exactly why I will be in living color at the Pier Six Pavilion on Sunday.

So far I am managing to hold it together just long enough to be productive until Sunday night. If I turn up missing chances are I am parked outside the venue getting a no camping ticket, if they have those. Come show time Ann’s gonna be giving me the “not so much” look down stage left cause I’ll be straight kill’in it. But no worries I won’t ruin the show for you probably just my vocal cords. This is a once in lifetime show but you’re going to have to see for yourself.

Rare Celestial Alignment Over Baltimore’s Inner Harbor

Astronomers just released information of a new development -  a rare & special moment when 3 ‘typically separate’ stars will align in perfect view on Thursday, June 25th. Oddly enough, the best position for viewing this nighttime spectacle will be at Pier Six Pavilion on Eastern Ave. Surrounded by the sparkling waters of the Inner Harbor & the striking backdrop of the Baltimore skyline,  George Benson, Kenny ‘Babyface’ Edmonds and nebula-hot-newcomer, Ledisi will perform an unforgettable evening of soulful music!
The songbooks, recordings, #1 hits, Grammy awards, career accomplishments and accolades for these 3 artists would simply overload our blog… so -  google away and you’ll see what we mean.

to perform live at Pier Six Pavilion on June 25, 2009

Peace Love and Happiness @ UB40!

To the Point! I have been to many a reggae show in what I like to call the brief (ehmm) span of time I have graced this green earth. Without a doubt it’s the most enticing of music genres.  It stirs one of humanities most intrinsic compulsions. I will be the first to tell you I fully support an individual’s subscription to their own personal policy on hedonistic behavior. Maybe it fits into a spreadsheet, I dunno. Try that on for size, Excel!

Back to the point, my all-time best reggae inspired show was Reggae on the Harbor, summer of 2007 at the Pier Six Pavilion. I was electrified. My body felt carbonated.  I needed to move closer and feel those decibels really coming at me.  The irresponsible show-goer in me took over and I managed, magically, to find myself in the front row. BAM! Decibels coming at me and I was down right possessed!  Hands stretched upward to the stage, bringing those vibes right in my finger tips.

Before I knew it I was squished into a front row seat with a fellow concert-goer, stirring my watery rum runner because I couldn’t be bothered to take a sip for fear of missing a beat.  (No idea where my straw had gone.  *Note to self don’t lose your straw in the front row.)  Taking a moment to realize our surroundings this dread-doning individual and myself quickly turned towards each other, blinked once, exchanged smiles, and went right back to the vibes, arm in arm.

Remember, first, to do as I say not as I do.

The majority of people in the front row may not want a carbonated stranger in their lap. Just a guess.”

BUT the UB40 show at Rams Head Live on May 6th is general admission so the front row is up for grabs.  Awesome! Just be careful of my elbow room, I need space to groove! And careful of my rum runner (and straw)! The rum runners are half priced for this UB40  show, as are Bud and Bud Light drafts so go Ram wild! Mwuahaha!
