If you, like me, thought that today is just another Wednesday you’ve got it all backwards. Today is a perfect palindrome day – 11/02/2011 and there won’t be another one until February 2, 2020. So in honor of this historic day (and because, let’s face it, it’s fun to get down and nerdy every once in a while) we’re giving away a pair of tickets to see Bobby Long’s all ages show at Rams Head On Stage. So here’s the deal. Leave a comment with your best palindrome here, on our Facebook Page, or on twitter @RamsHeadOnStage with the hashtag #palindromeplay and before 11:11 tonight and our favorite will win a pair of tickets to see Bobby Long with Rayland Baxter on November 13th! (We’ll announce the winner tomorrow)

Congratulations to our winner Cyndi Lewis! Check back next week for more chances to win swag & music from Bobby Long and other Rams Head On Stage artists like Cowboy Junkies, Savoy Brown and Judy Collins!

Put on your party pants and get ready to celebrate with us at the Rams Head Shore House on Saturday, October 22nd.We’re pleased to announce the celebration of their 5 year Anniversary . To commemorate the milestone, the restaurant will open its doors at 7 a.m. for the Rams Head company tradition of “Kegs n’ Eggs”.

Rams Head Shore House owners Kyle Muehlhauser and Erin McNaboe purchased the previously named Island Inn from the Rosenberry family in October of 2006. Over the course of 5 years the business has continued to evolve, adding breakfast to their business plan in 2010. Open 365 days a year, the business is pleased to offer breakfast, lunch and dinner and has received recognition for “Best Breakfast”, “Best Beer Selection”, “Best Bar Games” and “Best Happy Hour” by the local clientele.

General Manager, Kathryn Singer, has been the General Manager of the facility for the past 2 years while Chef Jason White joined the team in the spring of 2011. “An anniversary is a time to celebrate what we have achieved in the past, what we have in the present, and to acknowledge the future. We couldn’t have done any of it without our loyal customers and the local community. So let’s get together and celebrate 5 years of Food, Fun, and Beer!” says Rams Head Shore House, General Manager Kathryn Singer.

To celebrate, patrons are invited to spend the morning at Rams Head Shore House on Saturday, October 22nd to enjoy reduced drink pricing, breakfast specials, prizes every half hour, and live music from local musicians. This is Rams Head’s small way to say “thank you” for years of loyalty from both their customers and the community.

okay, I know it’s a little corny, but, it’s true… I’ve been booking shows for Rams Head On Stage, Live and Pier Six for the past 13+ years and have kept an old CD box titled “Box of Happiness”, in which I keep, customer comment cards, band reviews of our venues, emails from road managers etc etc. ( I’m not sayin that we never get the occasional curmudgeon or negative response from a patron, who, perhaps didn’t get to hear their favorite song, or luck into a night where the artist was signing CD’s…) But, I decided a long time ago, that it’s the Good News that is worth hanging on to ! so, I squirrel away the positives … and there are stacks of em !

Kris' Box of Happiness

Music is indeed ‘a universal language’, it moves folks, it changes lives and it is something that stays with us lucky human beings in a visceral way…. we remember moments in our lives by the ‘background’ music that accompanies them ! We, at Rams Head have the pleasure of knowing that music lovers have laughed, cried, gotten engaged, delighted in turning their kids on to music, danced, let their hair down and enjoyed every aspect of Live musical experiences through the shows we produce ! From time to time, I plan to bring you some of this ‘bits of joy’ in our weekly blog…..

ps. I’m also happy to say that when I pulled out the ‘box of happiness’ this morning, it was hiding my favorite Josh Ritter Cd !! (thought I had lost it for good !)

This week’s patron quote: Thank you for a GREAT Friday night!. The Steep Canyon Rangers were just the best!!! What a great group of young men and of course terrific musicians!!!! We really, really hope you will bring them back on a regular basis…once or twice every year. It was just a wonderful show and of course good food and drinks! Take care and thanks again. -The Lyon Family ( and 6 other friends)

"I feel that the songs are as strong as they've ever been. As always, the fans can dance to it...they can roll down the windows and drive to it...and they can certainly cry to it. A good album is a roller coaster of emotions, right?"

Marc Broussard is a showman. His shows in our Annapolis and Baltimore clubs are amongst our most well received and buzzed about performances. He returns to Rams Head Live in Baltimore next Tuesday night with up and coming crowd pleaser Drew Hoclomb and the Neighbors (who one critic calls “a kind of warm blanket-like swirl of country and blues like Buddy Miller and Al Green, with dashes of modern songwriters a la Jason Mraz.”). Marc recently took some time off from his busy tour to talk to us about his new album, his dream tour and recite some Gloria Estefan.

1) Your new album, tentatively titled Marc Broussard, is available right now only at your live shows. That’s an interesting concept. Can you explain why you chose to make it available at yours before the general release?

MB: We originally intended for the album to be released in the summer of 2010. However, we really wanted to get it right, so we kept tweaking things so it took quite a bit longer. The label was really cool to allow me to sell it almost 4 months prior to street date. This way I can get out and let my fans get the first taste of what I believe is my best album to date.

2) Tell us about the new record. How do you feel about it? What can fans expect from it?

MB: Like I said, I think this is my strongest effort yet. I feel that the songs are as strong as they’ve ever been. As always, the fans can dance to it…they can roll down the windows and drive to it…and they can certainly cry to it. A good album is a roller coaster of emotions, right?

3) We, of course are very familiar with your music from your stellar Rams Head On Stage shows over the years. How would you describe your music to someone who isn’t familiar with it? What would you tell someone to expect from one of your live shows?

MB: Well my recorded music i’m not very familiar with, expect for this new record. i’ve listened to that quite a bit. now, as for the live show, from my perspective it’s a little something like this… 1 2 3 4…come on shake your body baby do that conga. I know you can’t control yourself any longer. feel the rhythm of the music getting stronger, don’t you fight it ’til you’ve tried it, do that conga beat.

4) On your past summer tour, you sold bracelets to raise money for the Gulf Watermen affected by the oil spill. Were you personally affected by the spill? Do you still live in Louisiana when you aren’t touring?

MB: I wasn’t personally affected, but close friends of mine were. I still live in Carencro, Louisiana on the street that I grew up in. I’ve lived in three different houses on that street!

5) The opener for your Baltimore show is Drew Holcomb – what can you tell us about him?

MB: Drew and his wife Elie are incredible people, as are the rest of his band “The Neighbors.” I actually met Drew through my guitar player, Nathan Dugger. Nate is actually in Drew’s band when he’s not out touring with me.

6) For a newer song, your “Home” has been covered a lot, most notably by Blake Shelton on Clash of the Choirs and Kelly Clarkson during her tour. What’s it like to hear your music re-interpreted, particular in the dramatic way it was re-done by Shelton?

MB: It’s always a trip hearing someone else cover your song, especially when it’s done by someone famous. George Benson recently covered a song of mine called “Come In From The Cold” off of my SOS album and Joe Cocker cover “Hard Knocks” from my last album, Keep Coming Back. Very humbling!!

7) Home was also used as the theme song for Medium – does placement like that bring with it a lot of recognition?

MB: I’m not sure how much recognition, but it definitely adds coal to the fire.

8) If you could tour with any musician for one summer, who would it be and why?

MB: Adele. Because her new record has such a great sound. She’s got a lot going for her right now.

Marc Broussard performs at Rams Head Live next Tuesday night. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at www.ramsheadlive.com.

Best known as the lead singer of YES, Jon Anderson’s career has spanned generations, his vocal skill and writing style remaining influencial from one decade to the next. From the debut of YES in a time of pacifism and peace to the sampling of vocals in the age of iPods and Hip-Hop, Anderson’s presence and importance to the progression of Rock and Roll is undeniable.

1969: YES debuts self-titled progressive rock album – a creative effort to bring rock and roll into a more conceptual, artistic frontier.

1971: “Roundabout” makes it to #13 on Billboard’s Hot 100.

1975: appeared on Greek electronic composer Vangelis’ album, Heaven and Hell.

1976: Anderson’s first solo album, Olias of Sunhillow breaks into the US Top 50 while reaching #8 in the UK charts.

1980: Anderson leaves YES and experiences a successful solo career (through the 1990′s).

1983: Yes reaches #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 with “Owner of A Lonely Heart”.

1985: Anderson’s “This Time it Was Really Right” featured on the soundtrack for the movie St. Elmo’s Fire.

1990′s: Successful solo career continues, touring South America with a band that included his two daughters and making vocal appearances on his own son’s album, Kitaro’s album Dream and Steve Howe’s tribute album Portraits of Bob Dylan covering, “Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands”.

2006: Anderson appears with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra during two shows in Philadelphia P.A. to play “Roundabout”.

2010: Kanye West samples and predominantly features Anderson’s vocals from “In High Places” on his opening track to My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, “Dark Fantasy”.

May 9th, 2011: Jon Anderson comes to Rams Head On Stage in Annapolis, MD for one night only.
