Jersey Shore's DJ Pauly D will spin at the Jan. 29th Polar Bear Plunge

Who might you ask is DJ Pauly D?   Well, for those of you tend to do everything you can to ignore the often disheartening pop culture world, DJ Pauly D is part of MTV’s (brilliant?) hit Jersey Shore.  The reality show follows eight housemates as they maneuver through the summers together with much of the tape relying on partying, Snooki’s “poof” hair, GTL (gym. tan. laundry), fist pumping and plenty of members of the opposite sex.

The show has not been without controversy… initially stemming from the widespread use of the words “Guido” and “Guidette” to advertise the new show.  In fact, UNICO slammed the show, calling for a boycott with claims of “denigration” of Italian Americans.  And of course let’s not forget the “grenade” theory.  According to MTV.com, “In short, a grenade is an unattractive woman, usually accompanied by a more attractive woman. The idea is that your wing man will have to “fall on the grenade” in order to allow you to seal the deal with the superior specimen. It’s a little offensive, sure, but it’s also pretty clever.” And that seems to sum it up… Jersey Shore lives a little on the offensive, but apparently clever and most certainly successful.

All controversy aside, I will admit that I enjoy Jersey Shore as a guilty pleasure on Thursday nights. And, according to recent ratings of Season 3, I am not the only one – 8.45million viewers watched the premiere episode making it MTV’s most watched series telecast ever.  Both MTV and the cast are having some series fist pumps over that one. 

There are definitely bright spots within the Jersey Shore show, one of which can be DJ Pauly D’s wonderful one-liners.  In my “stalka”(I mean watchful) opinion, I believe that Pauly D is the listener among the group.  He patiently watches as drama unfolds, often with his eyes wide in disbelief until the opportunity strikes for him to drop in his wise words of wisdom.  For example – “You can’t walk in with a giant banana and expect everything to be peaches.”  Insert my snarky comment:  the meaning of my life is now complete.

Most famous for his “The Cabs are Here” and “It’s TShirt Time”, DJ Pauly D rallies up the troops on the set of Jersey Shore and is certain to do the same at the 15th Annual Polar Bear Plunge this Saturday, January 29th.   Let’s here it now, “IT’S PLUNGING TIME!!!”. 

 That’s right, from 12:30 until 4pm, DJ Pauly D will make his first official appearance in the state of Maryland at the quirky winter event that raises money for Special Olympics of Maryland.  DJ Pauly D will spin on site (that’s right ‘DJ’ is not just a clever moniker) for Plungers and spectators.

How can you take part of this fist pumping, “OH YEAH” action?   There are a few options for you; 

  1. You can take the plunge and register for the 2011 Polar Bear Plunge.  You only need to raise a minimum of $50 and I bet your Mom would help you with that just for saying you want to help out Special Olympics.  Maybe you’ll even raise more than $50!
  2. Or go big pimpin’Rams Head Ice Lodge VIP.  VIP parking. VIP stage presence for all the live music action.  Meet & Greet with Pauly D. Plus you get fed too.   
  3. While you’re at the Rams Head Ice Lodge, get a chance to have a meet & greet with Pauly D himself.  You might just win the golden ticket.  It’s a 3 in 150 chance to meet him, the odds are pretty good. I’d place that bet.  Buy your bDaily bag at the Rams Head table. Winners announced at 3pm. 
  4. You can come as a spectator at the Plunge this Saturday.  This is truly THE winter event in the area and there’s plenty to do for all ages.  Come to the Rams Head Ice Lodge tent and you can enjoy Pauly D’s choice of tracks. 
  5. You can  join the facebook pressure to see if we can get Pauly D to get his hair wet with the fan page, Pauly D Plunges.

Rams Head Group is ready to “bear” the cold!!

On January 29th, 2011, The Rams Head Group has committed to grin and “bear” it for the athletes of Special Olympics Maryland (SOMD) by taking a chilly dip into the Chesapeake Bay alongside 10,000+ other warm-hearted people.

I know – you’re probably getting cold just thinking about it! But, the cold that you will feel is just temporary…the positive impact this will have on the lives of the special Olympic athletes will last a lifetime.

According to plungemd.com, the official website of the Polar Bear Plunge. This year is the 15th Anniversary of the MSP Polar Bear Plunge where, for just $50 in pledges, Plunge participants take a quick dip in the Chesapeake Bay to raise funds for Special Olympics Maryland, the state’s largest year-round organization devoted to sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

Rams Head Group Vice President and Rams Head Shore House owner Erin McNaboe, will go even further by Super Plunging to raise $10,000 for Maryland Special Olympics. Erin will be jumping into the cold water every hour for 24 hours.-Wowzers, that’s a lot of cold water!

But, don’t worry…The Rams Head as also formed a team- The Rams Head Group! This event has become a tradition to the Rams Head family.It’s a day we gather as a team with the Rams Head managment, staff, and patrons to jump into the freezing Chesapeake Bay with 10,000 + plungers. Last year our team consist of 70 members and raised over 10,000 dollars.(That’s just the team) This year, we want to raise more and keep growing.

Plus this year, the plunge will feature the Rams Head Ice Lodge with live music, and special guest DJ Pauly D MTV’s Jersey Shore.  He will be performing live from 12:30-4pm. Forget about Jersey, Pauly… Maryland is the place to be!

 

So, don’t miss the fun on Saturday, January 29th at the Sandy Point State Park. The plunge is only 14 days away. And, you could make a difference too! 

First time plunger tips

  1. Bring a loose pair of shoes, extra (warm) clothes to change into
  2. Wear your plunging suit under the clothes you wear to the event
  3. Bring extra towels ( at least two)
  4. Carpool to the shuttle bus locations , or even better, charter a bus w. a group of friends
  5. Bring a back pack with change of clothes, extra pair of shoes, snacks and drinks
  6. Visit the Rams Head Ice Lodge for some entertainment
  7. Bring a plastic bag for wet/ dirty clothes
  8. River shoes for jumping into the cold water ( your toes will thank you later)
  9. Disposable and/or waterproof camera to catch the moment with your friends
  10. DON’T dive into the water, & DON’T be the 1st to run into the water if it’s your 1st time plunging!

Belting vocals to riding moguls: Rams Head Karaoke Enthusiasts Rock out for Special Olympics!

How much do you love those days when you can really let your hair down? For some it might be a slightly askew part or a little extra curl to your quaff but nonetheless you are ready to rock on with ya bad self! Whatever the flavor of entertainment we can all agree – we need to thrive, love, and dive into our respective boogie time.

This was certainly the case, January 24th 2009 at Rams Head Live’s first ever live band karaoke night with Maxxtone. Singers and not-so-much-singers flooded the stage for three hours shouting it out to their favorite jams, all the while managing to survive a sea of amp cords and pedals, no small feat mind you. As a viewer you could not help but take in the sense of euphoria flowing through each brave soul to leave the stage. And “brave soul” is no uncertain term. This is not your down home karaoke joint, (not that they aren’t FAN-TABULOUS!) but this is the big time, go hard or go home, karaoke on steroids, 400 songs to choose kinda party.

Looking around I started to realize, this is pretty righteous, leaning into a friend and yelling, “This is pretty righteous!” Every two minutes I was grabbing a stranger, a bartender, whatever, yelling, “Did you just see that?” as each performer shocked, amazed and humored to new heights.

In truth you had to walk away and appreciate how much you love those times when being a free soul is so organic.

Between a rendition of Just a Girl by No Doubt and a pretty serious Alice Cooper impersonation, these karaoke loyalists found time to throw their luck in at our Special Olympics Charity Raffle. Prizes included electric and acoustic guitars, rock band, guitar hero, things of the like. It went off without a hitch and our contributors were great! Very recently we received some feedback on the donation and could not be more elated.

Prince Georges County Special OlympicsAs it happens, the Prince Georges County Special Olympians were able to find a little bit of their own boogie time due to the rip roaring efforts of our star-bound performers. In years past, the troop only had enough funds to take the kids for a couple practice runs and just barely outfit them for the event. Following final ceremonies other troops would sprint off to the snow tubes and let loose for the rest of the trip, celebrating their preparation, hard work and performances with some dip-dodging tube rides. Prince Georges County on the other hand would pile into the vans for a soggy two hour ride home. BUT NOT THIS YEAR! Thanks to the charitable donations made by our faithful Karaoke enthusiasts Prince Georges County Special Olympians closed out the season thrashing some snow dunes of their own. They ran off to the tube park with everyone else! How’s that for awesome?!

Whatever the weather, make sure to find your own brand of go time. Maybe it’s Jack’s Mannequin at Rams Head Live or Tift Merrit at Rams Head Onstage. Go out, get your kicks, buy your tixs, and have a blast! You deserve it and are always welcome at our stages!

Rams Head Plunges into the Icy Chesapeake Bay

Along with 11,000 other Plungers, the owners of Rams Head led a Plunge Team of 46 into the icy Chesapeake Bay on Saturday, January 24th 2009.

The 13th Annual Polar Bear Plunge raises funds for Special Olympics Maryland, the state’s largest year-round organization devoted to sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

This was Rams Head’s 1st Plunge experience and we all walked away humbled, inspired, COLD, but already full of anticipation to plunge again in 2010!

We’ve been in support of the Special Olympics of Maryland this year, first with their Raven in a Pear Tree event (12/8/08 at Rams Head Live)  and now with the Polar Bear Plunge on Saturday, January 24th 2009.
