A Rams Head Guide to Memorial Day Weekend

Aaaaaah, yes. The first long weekend of the summer.

It’s only Thursday and I find myself wandering through daydreams of frosty Margaritas and orange accompanied Hefeweizens. I can almost smell the coconut sun block and juicy burgers on the grill. Being an Annapolis local, I just solidified an afternoon ‘on the boat’ with a fine crew of both party lovers and sailors (someone’s gotta steer the thing). And although that makes the holiday weekend official in my mind, that’s just one afternoon – What in the world am I going to do with the rest of the three day mini-vacay?

For locals and tourists alike, on ‘staycations’ or weekend get-aways in our port-side province, Rams Head’s working to keep you fat, happy and entertained.

Friday, May 22nd
Start the weekend with a big, sloppy Happy Hour.
Avoid bridge traffic – you know it’s gonna be a mess – and join us (or the Rams Head nearest you) for $2.50 drafts, house wines and liquors from 4pm to 7pm. If you’ve got to pinch those pennies for the long weekend ahead, Rams Head happy hour is a good place to start. We’re serving complimentary wings to all attendees from 5-7pm.

Saturday, May 23rd

Rocknoceros, all ages kiddie matinee.
11am at Rams Head On Stage.
Attention families: Hannah Nebraska who? Coach Cotton, Williebob, and Boogie Bennie are the hot new rock stars for the under eight set. All the cool kids are in the know.

Willie Nile, w. Vandaveer
8.30pm at Rams Head On Stage
Perhaps you’ve heard WRNR‘s Carrie featuring a couple of Willie’s new tracks via Carrie’s Catch of the Day. The enthralling new Streets of New York finds the artist in his mid-fifties, his youthful energy unflagging, and never having sounded more committed to the themes he’s tackled.

Sunday, May 24th
Brunch before Boats
10am – 2pm at a Rams Head near you.
Hold on sailor! Before you head out on the seas, you’d better fill that belly. The Annapolis Benedict accompanied by a lump crab cake and the Baja Breakfast Burrito are two of our biggest sellers. These hearty feasts are sure to please, but if you’re known to suffer from sea sickness and the high seas aren’t for you, The Geckos will be providing the rythms of the carribean via steal drums and bongos all morning and into the afternoon.

Monday, May 25th
Memorial Day
First, remember to remember why we’re celebrating – why we’re remembering. It is on this day that we commemorates U.S. men and women who fought and died for our country while in military service. First enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War, it was expanded after World War I to include American casualties of any war or military action. So whether over a ‘cheers’ at the Rams Head, on the beach or in your back yard, surround yourself with the friends and family that you love most. And remember that today we honor the lives of those fallen.

Cheers! And on with Monday Funday!

Presto Change-o!

And with the wave a magic wand (er, a month and a half of designs, redesigns and redesigns) we proudly present to you our brand-spankin-new Rams Head Group blog version 2.0 – or as we like to call it: the dead sexy version.

It’s a whole new world over here, thanks to one Mr. Bryan Connor, MICA design student and freelancer extraordinaire. Located within our company site, this new skin fits juuuust right.

Play around, push the buttons, wander through the blog that inspired the rebrand of the Rams Head Group.

Now, you have the opportunity to get to know your Rams Head Team authors, perhaps even hand-picking who you’d like to follow. Interested in footage from the last ‘WRNR Private Artist Showcase?’ Chances are, Wilkins caught it on the Flip. Curious about what the big yellow chicken is up to? Like Peter Parker to Spiderman, Chester always seems to have the scoop on his whereabouts. And surfing through the articles for your favorite author’s most recent post has been simplified via our very own author icons. Icons that we got to choose ourselves… yes, Mangold’s is a chicken sandwich, and if you’re already following his ‘Notes from the Bunker’ than you probably recognize that this is completely acceptable.

We’ve updated our Blog Roll and Friends as well as organized our group websites so that you can more easily navigate through the world wide web according to Rams Head. Tickets, dinner specials, Fordham’s brewing schedule, and current venue line ups are all available at the click of your mouse, right here within our blog.

Following too many friends and missed our last tweet? Know the answer to the @RamsHeadLive twicket trivia? A twitter feed is also located along the bottom, just below our ‘previous posts’.

So again, play around – have fun. Hope ya like it… and continue to keep your peepers open for aesthetic brand changes company wide. We’re celebrating 20 years here, people. ‘Bout darn time we wax, polish & shine this puppy and show you what she can really do.

Cheers,
Chester & Team Rams Head

Tweet this.

Myspace, Facebook, Twitter

Myspace, Facebook, Twitter

Just a month ago we had no idea what a “tweet” was. Never knew the frustration of the “fail whale”. Thought a “twhirl” was nothing more than our favorite summer soft-serve. To think, when we first opened our doors in 1989 all communication was passed across the bar. All socializing was done within our walls, face to face.

The world has certainly changed since 1989. When Bill Muehlhauser had a thick Tom Sellick-esque mustache and was selling sandwiches and drafts out of the Annapolis Downbar, I’m sure he would’ve loved to “tweet” about Annapolis’ best Happy Hour bargain. Surely, the perfectly permed Paula would’ve loved to send a personalized “direct message” to each of her favorite fannypack-wearing patrons.

But it is now, on the dawn of neon’s revival, with ever-thinning iPods and expanding “tweet decks” that we have the opportunity to keep you in the know.

Did you miss The Hold Steady when their Rams Head Live show was featured on David Letterman? Check out the YouTube clip on our myspace page.

Did you have your picture taken with President Barack Obama at the InRNRgural celebration at Rams Head On Stage? Tag yourself in our photos and add it to your Facebook page.

Curious about tonight’s specials or what band is tearin’ it up at the Roadhouse for late night? Follow us on twitter and we’ll keep you posted daily on menu changes, drink specials, and upcoming events.

We understand, it can all be a little overwhelming and none of us are immediately accepting of change. But at some point, someone suggested that you toss out the acid wash jean jacket with bedazzled cuffs and suede fringe.

We just want to keep you on the up and up. And the beauty of these sites is that you can communicate with us right back – friends lookin’ out for friends. And at the end of the day, we’re still right here: behind the bar with a beer, poised for dirty jokes and complaints about your boss or mother-in-law.

Until then, we’ll see you in the twittersphere.

DJ for a day, or a couple minutes….

Or not really at all, but it’s fun to pretend! And it’s always a pleasure to record a spot with 103.1 WRNR’s one and only Rob Tim. As it turns out, Mr. Tim is not just another pretty face. Not only is he the perfect dose of sarcasm Monday through Friday alongside Alex Cortright on WRNR’s ‘Morning Show with Alex & Rob, Rob & Alex’ on WRNR, but as it turns out, he’s also a kick-butt radio coach.

Thanks to Rob’s positive feedback and helpful words of radio wisdom, we were able to record our spot in ONE JUST ONE TAKE! A goal we’d been working on through the previous three spots.

I think Rob and I have great “in the booth” chemistry… what do you think?

I think, “Mornings with Alex & Rob & Krista, and Rob & Alex and Krista, and Krista & Alex and Rob, and Krista &…. oh you get the idea… they definitely need a ladies presence. As does the studio. We could really soften up the room with some scented candles and colorful throw pillows.

Roll that beautiful booth footage.

Coffee, Computers, And James Morrison…

This morning started off with a bang.  I skipped (aka drove) down to ‘RNR to record our new Rams Head On Stage spot with the ever magical and always charming Rob Timm.   Nailed a sweet parking spot right by my destination. Followed up my appointment with a short walk to City Dock Coffee with my favorite sales guy  Terry P.  to grab a yummy mocha.  I finish the trip by dropping some goods off at Zachary’s Jewelers to help support their cool Love Letter Contest.  The skies were blue, the sun was shining and all was right with the world.   Then it happened.  I hopped out of the car, grabbed my 2 mochas (one for my coworker ’cause I’m nice like that), grabbed my bag, grabbed my phone…spillage occurs.  I’m covered in foamy, chocolatey mocha.  There’s coffee in my hair, coffee on my scarf (white!), coffee on my coat (also white!!), coffee on my phone – which at this point is now flying across my office.  It lands  with a thud on my floor…in two pieces.  Stellar.

I move on to my next task of the day – the blog.  We caught some awesome footage of the uber talented British crooner James Morrison’s WRNR Private Artist Showcase  on our nifty Flip camera yesterday that I’ve been dying to share with you all.  8 hours later…my dang computer still can’t manage to be friends with my Flip.  So no video either.

Crunchy hair, broken phones and cranky computers will not break me.  I WILL bring on the James Morrison love.  It was a pleasure to have him here with us in Annapolis.  Hope he comes back again real soon. Enjoy.

From The Bunker….

Wow….what a day! Big thanks to everyone at WRNR for throwing the inaugural party with us here in Annapolis. Great day…lots of fun, and it was good to see so many excited people. Speaking of which, I expect to see just as many of you get excited when you see in our e-mail blast tomorrow that we are going on sale with Mos Def (Feb. 25) and Tricky (March 10) tomorrow afternoon. But…I got a little secret…the shows are actually on sale right now, at www.ramsheadlive.com. Anyone who buys a ticket to either show between now and tomorrow at noon will be entered into a contest to be upgraded to our VIP section for BOTH shows AND a free pair of Thievery Corporation VIP tickets to boot!

Also just announced, but not onsale until Saturday at noon, moe will be coming to Rams Head Live for two great nights March 27 and 28 with very special guest The Bridge. Also, we have just announced the Cold, Cold Heartbreakers as the special guests for the Scott Weiland extravaganza Jan, 27th. Anyone who has seen Rodney Henry and company knows their involvement guarantees that this will be the party of the year! Alright, that’s all for now – get your tickets to Tricky or Mos Def on the sneak today or tomorrow morning before the e-blast goes out!

Rams Head & MICA present ‘A Presentation’

open source video, online video platform, video streaming, video solutions

We are very excited to be working with Bernard Canniffe, Graphic Design Professor and Co-Chair at Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). Together, we have presented two of his Sophmore level design classes with an opportunity to design posters (and perhaps additional marketing collateral) for our February 27th Thievery Corporation show at Rams Head LIVE! We’re looking forward to working with Bern and his students on what should be not only a fun learning project but one that will also provide each student with a professional piece for their portfolio and the experience of working on a professional level with a local Baltimore business.

The final pieces will be displayed in a “virtual show” format on our 25 flatscreen monitors. Students will then be invited to present their work and ideas to the group in a tradtional critique format within our VIP viewing areas prior to the show.

Due to the joyful chaos of local Presidential Inauguration festivities at our Rams Head Tavern in Annapolis, we were unable to personally present this project to the class. However we have provided this video as a “Virtual Presentation”…. keeping with the theme of the project in a way.

Bern & Students: Get your pens and pencils ready and push play when your ready to be WOWed by the artistically inclined, overly animated, tap-dancing triple-threat known to those who lover her simply as “CHESTER.”
